先日、久しぶりに頓田貯水池へ野鳥撮影に行ってきました。この貯水池は、多種多様な野鳥を観察できる人気のスポットで、特にカワセミの撮影地として知られています。春や秋に比べると、釣り人、サイクリスト、野鳥撮影を楽しむ人は少なめでしたが、それでも数人の方が散歩を兼ねて撮影を楽しんでいました。
しかし、以前と比べていくつか変化が見られました。
“The other day, I went to Tonda Reservoir to take photos of wild birds for the first time in a while. This reservoir is a popular spot for observing a wide variety of wild birds, and it’s particularly known as a great place to photograph kingfishers. Compared to spring and autumn, there were fewer people fishing, cycling, and enjoying birdwatching, but there were still a few people enjoying photography while taking a walk.

野良猫の増加
主観的な印象ですが年々、野良猫が増えている印象を受けます。以前から野良猫が多い場所でしたが、最近は貯水池の内部まで住み着いているようです。特に大北亭の駐車場は多くの野良猫がいるため、車を駐車する際は注意が必要です。
Increase in Stray Cats
“From my subjective perspective, it seems that the number of stray cats is increasing year by year. It has always been a place with many stray cats, but recently they seem to be inhabiting even the inside of the reservoir. In particular, there are many stray cats in the parking lot of Ohkita-tei, so it is necessary to be careful when parking your car.”
大北亭の老朽化
貯水池のシンボルの一つである大北亭も、老朽化がかなり進んでいます。元々、大連市（中国）との友好都市締結3周年を記念して昭和58年2月に建てられた休憩所ですが、現在は老朽化で建物の一部が落下する可能性があるため、近づくことができません。ただ、建物の色はまだ鮮やかに見えます。
Deterioration of Ohkita-tei
“Ohkita-tei, one of the symbols of the reservoir, is also showing considerable signs of aging. Originally, it was a rest area built in February 1983 to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the friendship city agreement with Dalian City (China), but it is currently closed off due to the risk of falling debris from the aging building. However, the color of the building still appears vibrant.”

みどりの浮橋周辺の老朽化
メインのサイクリングコースは整備されていますが、「みどりの浮橋」周辺エリアは数年前よりもさらに老朽化が進んでいるようです。慣れている方は別として、初心者の方は「みどりの浮橋」を通らないコースをおすすめします。
Deterioration of the “Midori no Floating Bridge” Area
“While the main cycling course around the reservoir has been maintained, the area around the “Midori no Floating Bridge” seems to have deteriorated even more than it was a few years ago. I recommend that beginners, in particular, take a course that does not go through the “Midori no Floating Bridge,” apart from those who are used to it.”
野鳥は相変わらず豊富
こうした変化はあるものの、野鳥は相変わらず豊富です。頓田貯水池は渡り鳥にとっての休憩所にもなっており、この日も休憩中の白鳥の姿を見ることができました。また、撮影時期が2月ということもあり、多くのメジロを撮影できました。
Wild Birds Still Abundant
“Despite these changes, the variety of wild birds remains abundant. Tonda Reservoir also serves as a resting place for migratory birds, and on this day, I was able to see swans resting. Also, since the shooting period was February, I was able to photograph many white-eyes (mejiro).”

おすすめの駐車場
貯水池を散歩する際におすすめする駐車場は、桜公園周辺です。こちらは野良猫も少なく、公衆トイレや自動販売機もあるためおすすめです。駐車中に野良猫たちに車をいたずらされる可能性は低いです。
夜間はおすすめできないスポット
夜間はあまり地元の人でも車で通らない道で、ドライブとしても野生の動物が多いエリアのため事故になる可能性があります。よくあるダムと同じような場所なので、夜間に楽しむようなスポットではないので注意してください。
久しぶりに訪れた頓田貯水池は、様々な変化が見られましたが、それでも野鳥の豊富さは変わらず、自然を楽しめる場所でした。訪れる際には、これらの情報を参考にしていただければと思います。
Recommended Parking Spot
“When taking a walk around the reservoir, I recommend the parking area around Sakura Park. This area has fewer stray cats and is also recommended because it has public restrooms and vending machines. It is less likely that stray cats will tamper with your car while you are parked.
Spots Not Recommended at Night
“The roads at night are not often used by locals even by car, and as a driving route, there is a possibility of accidents due to the large number of wild animals in the area. It is a place similar to a common dam, so please note that it is not a spot to enjoy at night.
Tonda Reservoir, which I visited after a long time, has undergone various changes, but the abundance of wild birds remains unchanged, making it a place where you can enjoy nature. I hope this information will be helpful when you visit.”
